Diyala Forms Urgent Investigation Committee into Poisoning Incident at a Private College

The head of Diyala Governorate Council, Omar Al-Karoui, announced today (Thursday, April 30, 2026) the formation of an urgent investigation committee into a poisoning incident that affected a number of students at a private college in Baquba city, revealing that three decisions have been taken to uncover the circumstances of the incident. Al-Karoui stated that he directed the Health Committee in the Diyala Governorate Council to form an urgent investigation committee, in coordination with the Diyala Health Department, to examine the details of the poisoning incident involving several students at a private college in Baquba. He added that the incident resulted in the hospitalization of one female student in extremely critical condition, due to the failure of some of her organs and kidney failure, noting that he visited Baquba Hospital and inspected the situation on the ground. Al-Karoui explained that the investigation committee has begun its tasks by communicating directly with the medical staff supervising the cases, receiving the results of initial examinations and investigations, as well as listening to the statements of the student's family. He affirmed that the investigations will take their full course, and their results will be disclosed to the public with complete transparency, noting that the case will remain under follow-up as it concerns citizens' lives, and that the results and recommendations will be submitted to the Council presidency to take necessary measures.
