After years of injustice associated with the case of businessman Bahaa Abdul Hussein, owner of Qi Card, former Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi has admitted that errors occurred in the handling of the file during the period of the Abu Ragheef Committee.
The belated admission does not erase political responsibility for a committee established through an order issued under his government and granted broad powers before Iraq Federal Supreme Court annulled its legal basis and declared the Diwani Order creating it invalid.
Bahaa Abdul Hussein and the name of Qi Card were affected by procedures that now require clear and transparent review, particularly as the company remains a prominent Iraqi name in electronic payments and digital financial services. Reports addressing the methods
of the Abu Ragheef Committee also raised serious questions concerning alleged abuses during Al-Kadhimi tenure.
With the former prime minister himself now acknowledging errors in the handling of the case, providing justice is no longer merely a media demand. It is a legal and institutional necessity to protect rights and address the consequences of a period that harmed individuals and national companies.
