The General Management of the Iraqi Republic Railways Company announced the ongoing execution of the double-track railway project linking Baghdad and Karbala, specifically within the (Yousafiya - Mahmoudiya) sector, confirming its readiness to enter active service during the upcoming mass
pilgrimage season. The company noted that the new line will directly increase the frequency of daily trips, reduce travel times, and effectively accommodate large influxes of passengers. The operation of the double-track configuration enables simultaneous and smooth bidirectional train movement
without operational stops, enhancing overall transit efficiency and strict adherence to schedules.
