A source from the Diwaniyah Health Directorate reported today, Thursday (May 7, 2026), that the death toll from the horrific traffic accident near Al-Budayr town, south of the governorate, had risen to seven, in addition to two critically injured individuals.
The source explained that the accident occurred due to a collision between a truck and a medium-sized bus, suggesting that excessive speed was the main cause.
He added that ambulance teams transported the injured to nearby hospitals for treatment, while the victims' bodies were deposited at the Forensic Medicine Department.
He noted that relevant authorities have initiated an investigation to determine the circumstances of the accident and accurately identify its causes.
