A medical source in Diyala Governorate confirmed on Tuesday (May 5, 2026) the registration of a new suicide case involving a student born in 2010 inside her home in one of the popular neighborhoods of Baqubah city, marking the third case recorded in less than 24 hours at the governorate level.
The source explained that a student born in 2010 committed suicide inside her home in Baqubah, noting that the competent authorities transferred the body to forensic medicine, with an investigation committee formed to determine the causes and backgrounds that led to the incident.
He pointed out that this case is the third in less than 24 hours in Diyala Governorate, noting that all cases recorded during this period involved individuals under the age of 30.
He affirmed that all suicide cases are subject to official investigations by specialized teams to identify motives and circumstances, and to verify the details of each incident individually.
While Iraqi governorates witness sporadic suicide cases from time to time, the recording of three cases in one day in the same governorate is a dangerous indicator of the escalating psychological and social pressures affecting youth, particularly amid economic and living conditions, the spread of domestic violence, and weak psychological support services.
