The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) has temporarily withdrawn its advisory mission from Iraq, amid the ongoing war and escalating security tensions in the Middle East.
Two Iraqi security officials confirmed to Mada Al-Rafidain News on Friday that the majority of the NATO mission personnel have left the Union III base in Baghdad, with only a small number of advisors remaining.
An official from the Iraqi Joint Operations Command explained that this temporary withdrawal is driven by security concerns over current developments. He noted that the mission informed the Iraqi government prior to the move, emphasizing that there are no disagreements between the two parties.
The NATO mission operates in a non-combat, advisory capacity to support Iraqi forces. It is headquartered in a military base in central Baghdad, located near the US Embassy, which has faced a series of rocket and drone attacks since the outbreak of the war.
