Iraqi Delegation Prepares to Visit Ankara to Discuss Water Crisis and Secure Quotas for the Tigris and Euphrates

The Iraqi government is preparing to send a high-level negotiating delegation to Turkey next month, aiming to resolve the water quota issue and alleviate the severe drought crisis. The delegation comprises representatives from the Ministries of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Environment, alongside technical experts. These moves come in response to environmental reports warning of the dire consequences of a water revenue drop exceeding 40%, which has led to the drying of vast marshlands, the degradation of agricultural lands, and a threat to the food security of millions. Iraqi demands focus on the necessity of concluding a binding international agreement that ensures a fair and equitable distribution of the Tigris and Euphrates waters, as well as the establishment of joint technical committees for sustainable water resource management.
