The national afforestation campaign activities kicked off under the slogan "Green Iraq," in a historic step targeting the planting of two million diverse trees throughout the country. This initiative comes within the framework of vigorous efforts to combat desertification, which has become threatening vast areas of agricultural land, especially in southern and western regions. The campaign focuses on planting drought-resistant varieties such as sidr, olive, and pine, aiming to stabilize soil and reduce temperatures in major cities. The Minister of Environment affirmed that the project extends over the next five years, and includes precise monitoring mechanisms to ensure tree survival and continuous care. The Minister also called on citizens to actively participate in this campaign, considering environmental protection a shared responsibility between the state and society. Specialists hope the initiative will contribute to improving the local climate.
