Rafidainscope - A local environmental observatory revealed that several government departments have taken actions leading to the bulldozing of vast areas of agricultural land and orchards, hindering national efforts to combat desertification. The observatory explained that certain investment projects and
new road plans in the capital, Baghdad, and other areas have caused the removal of perennial trees and agricultural crops, in direct violation of environmental protection laws and Cabinet decisions aimed at stopping orchard bulldozing. The report also pointed to
the negligence of some water resources authorities in preparing strategic studies to address the shrinking of water bodies, warning that this complacency multiplies the risks of climate change and threatens the country's food security and biodiversity.
