Rights Activist Demands Translating the Iraqi Constitution into Actual Practices to Protect Citizens' Dignity

Human rights activist Ali Habib affirmed that Iraqi legislation and the constitution abound with articles that protect human rights and prevent violations, pointing out that the real test lies in the extent to which executive bodies commit to applying these texts on the ground. Habib explained that litigation guarantees and the prevention of arbitrariness must be accompanied by an independent judiciary and swift procedures to deter abuses. He also stressed the importance of supporting the Human Rights Commission to carry out its oversight duties, suggesting expanding the use of cameras and digital evidence inside detention centers to ensure transparency and hold wrongdoers accountable without exception.
