In a historic achievement for the agricultural sector, Iraq officially announced achieving self-sufficiency in the wheat crop after a successful marketing season that exceeded expectations. Supporting government policies, from providing pivotal sprinklers to high-grade seeds, contributed to a significant increase
in productivity per acre despite water scarcity. Farmers expressed their satisfaction with the speed of receiving their financial entitlements, encouraging them to expand cultivated areas for future seasons. The Ministry of Agriculture is currently planning to leverage this success in
developing other strategic crops like corn and rice, aiming to secure the entire Iraqi food basket and reduce dependence on foreign sources, which strengthens the independence of Iraqi economic decision-making and saves vast sums that used to go towards importing
these essential crops.
