Oil industry experts have affirmed that Iraq's strategic geographic location offers significant flexibility to utilize multiple oil export routes, warning against the risks of total reliance on the Strait of Hormuz amid escalating regional tensions. Oil expert Ali Al-Azzawi explained
that protecting the Iraqi economy requires bold government decisions and the adoption of a long-term national strategy to diversify export outlets. He highlighted several viable options, including revitalizing the pipeline through Turkey, reactivating the Syrian route, advancing the export pipeline
project toward the Port of Aqaba, and exploring the potential use of Red Sea terminals. He stressed the imperative of isolating the oil sector—which accounts for over 90% of state revenues—from political disputes to ensure the uninterrupted flow of exports
and avert potential economic paralysis.
