Severe Water Crisis in Basra: Urgent Calls for Government Intervention and Accountability for Violators

Human rights bodies in Basra Governorate have issued an urgent distress call to the federal government to intervene and resolve the issue of providing water quotas to the province, following the exacerbation of the water crisis caused by the disruption of main transport channels. The demands emphasized the necessity of implementing rapid emergency plans to address the water scarcity affecting vast areas at the peak of summer, while stressing the importance of holding accountable the entities and companies, primarily oil companies, encroaching on the province's water shares. The appeals also included demands to exempt citizens from water collection fees, given the deteriorating quality and high levels of salinity and pollution.
