Minister of Interior Announces Completion of Integrated Concrete Wall on Iraqi-Syrian Border

Minister of Interior Abdul Amir Al-Shammari announced today, Wednesday (May 6, 2026), the completion of the integrated concrete wall on the Iraqi-Syrian border. The Ministry stated in a statement that the Minister announced the complete achievement of the concrete wall on the Iraqi-Syrian border strip. Al-Shammari affirmed, according to the statement and during a ceremony held on this occasion, that this project, which began work in 2022, represents the true "safety valve" for Iraq, as it puts an end to security challenges, foremost of which is terrorist infiltration and smuggling operations. The Minister expressed his thanks and appreciation to the Prime Minister, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, for his exceptional support for the Ministry of Interior in completing this security edifice, while also appreciating the efforts of the Border Forces leadership and all security formations holding the ground that contributed to this success. The ceremony included honoring a number of distinguished officers and personnel in appreciation of their heroic role. The statement indicated that on the sidelines of the field tour, the Minister inspected the stages of building the strategic bridge on the Al-Baghouz River, reviewing the progress of work in this vital facility that enhances logistical capabilities and security movements in the border area.
