The Military Intelligence Directorate foiled two oil derivatives smuggling operations in Diyala and Salah al-Din governorates on Friday (May 8, 2026), and arrested the drivers of the violating tankers.
The directorate stated in a statement that the two operations were carried out based on accurate intelligence information and organized field efforts, within the framework of continuous efforts to protect national wealth.
It explained that the intelligence and security departments of the 1st and 14th Infantry Divisions were able to thwart a plan to smuggle oil derivatives via illegal and unlicensed tankers, resulting in the arrest of the tankers along with their drivers.
The directorate affirmed that these operations come within a series of qualitative operations targeting oil smuggling networks and economic crime, aiming to protect national resources and strike illegitimate funding sources.
