Largest Smuggling Attempt Foiled at Umm Qasr Port; Training Drone, Medical and Electronic Supplies Confiscated

The Iraqi Border Ports Authority announced on Friday, May 22, 2026, the foiling of one of the largest smuggling operations at Umm Qasr Port in Basra Governorate, during a surprise inspection tour. The operation resulted in the confiscation of massive quantities of expired and unregulated medicines and medical supplies, in addition to over 15,000 electronic devices and smartphones hidden to evade customs duties. The seized items also included a training drone that had exceeded the legal release period, as well as non-compliant vehicles. Authorities affirmed the continuation of their proactive strikes to protect the national economy and citizens' security.
