Iraqi Parliament Discusses Legislation to Support Medical Staff and Amend Syndicate Laws

The Iraqi Council of Representatives held a regular session to discuss a package of legislative proposals and bills. The agenda included the first reading of a proposed law to support medical staff, in addition to reviewing amendments related to the advocacy law. The council also concluded its discussion on the third proposed amendment to the Iraqi Jurists Union law. In a related context, lawmakers reviewed proposals to address the fallout from the financial crisis and the bloated public sector workforce, most notably drafting legislation that allows government employees to take long-term leaves of absence in exchange for a specified percentage of their base salary.
