The Iraqi Kata'ib Hezbollah has announced a five-day halt to its military operations targeting the US Embassy in Baghdad, conditioning the continuation of this truce on strict field and security demands. This announcement coincided with the deaths of two Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) members in airstrikes targeting northern Iraq.
Abu Mujahid al-Assaf, a security official for the group, stated that the truce is contingent upon Israel ceasing its bombardment and displacement of residents in Beirut's southern suburbs (Dahiyeh), as well as halting strikes on residential areas in Iraq. The conditions also demand the withdrawal of CIA personnel from their field stations, restricting them to the embassy compound. He warned of a direct and intensified resumption of strikes if these terms are violated.
In a related context, Mada Al-Rafidain News did not observe any drone or rocket attacks on the US Embassy overnight from Wednesday to Thursday. This calm follows a recent series of intense attacks targeting the embassy and its logistical support center at Baghdad International Airport.
On the ground, the PMF announced that two of its fighters were killed and several others wounded early Thursday in airstrikes it described as "Zionist-American." The bombardment targeted the 30th Brigade's 4th Regiment in the Nineveh Plains, alongside a 31st Brigade post near Al-Siniyah Airport in Salah al-Din province. The PMF noted that enemy aircraft deliberately obstructed the work of ambulance teams.
These developments are an extension of the US-Israeli war on Iran, the repercussions of which have spilled over into the Iraqi arena. Armed factions operating under the banner of the "Islamic Resistance in Iraq" regularly claim daily attacks targeting US bases and interests across the region.
