Iraq Records the Transit of the First International Overland Cargo Under the Global (TIR) System

The General Commission of Customs announced on Saturday a strategic achievement represented by receiving the first international overland transit cargo under the global (TIR) system, arriving from Syrian territory through the Al-Waleed border crossing and heading to the State of Kuwait via the Safwan crossing. The Commission confirmed that specialized cadres completed customs auditing and verification procedures flexibly and in accordance with effective regulations. This step is considered a qualitative leap aimed at accelerating international trade movement, reducing transportation costs, and activating commercial linkage corridors among neighboring countries, which aligns with government plans aimed at automating and modernizing operations at border crossings.
