Indefinite Closure of a Major Bridge in Iraq Following Collapse Warnings

Informed sources reported an imminent decision to suspend traffic on the Hamrin Bridge, one of the country's largest strategic bridges, located along the Hamrin Lake route in the far northeast of Diyala Governorate, until further notice. This decision was based on a technical report warning of serious risks to commuters due to soil erosion in parts of the structure. Relevant authorities clarified that an alternative traffic plan will be activated to divert vehicles and trucks through the "Imam Wais" road, which connects Khanaqin and Baqubah. This measure comes in response to warnings from the Civil Defense regarding the dangers of continued heavy traffic on the bridge, necessitating comprehensive technical repairs before it can be reopened.
