rafidainscope - Owners of private generators in several Iraqi governorates signaled on Sunday (August 23, 2026) the possibility of an early halt in electricity supply to citizens, ahead of the scheduled total shutdown on September 1. The generator owners attributed
this stance to economic and administrative challenges, notably the retroactive taxes imposed by the Ministry of Oil, coupled with insufficient government-supplied fuel (gas oil) quotas. This shortage forces them to purchase fuel from the parallel market at inflated prices to
cover the deficit caused by continuous national grid outages. Representatives have demanded urgent government intervention to avert the crisis.
