The General Traffic Directorate has announced its readiness to launch the smart traffic system in Baghdad and various provinces in the near future. The directorate clarified that this system will be implemented in registration departments and on main roads, with
the aim of upgrading the level of services provided to citizens and reducing traffic violations and accidents. The Director of the Media Division at the Directorate stated that the new mechanism relies on monitoring violations via smart cameras and sending
them to the central system, where they undergo a comprehensive audit before being transferred to a specialized officer to be recorded as a fine on the vehicle. He stressed the existence of a meticulous review of violations before their approval,
pointing out that any amendment to the value of fines or their application mechanisms requires new legal legislation, as the directorate is an executive body. He noted that the capital recently recorded a noticeable decrease in violations, which contributed to
a decline in traffic accident rates.
