The Iraqi Army carried out a large-scale security operation on Friday (May 15, 2026) to inspect the site of a recent airstrike in the Wadi Al-Shay area of Kirkuk Governorate, as part of its ongoing efforts to pursue the remnants
of ISIS terrorist gangs. A security source reported that army forces launched a meticulous search operation at the site where a dangerous terrorist element was eliminated following an airstrike. The source added that the executing force found a motorcycle and
an improvised explosive device (IED) during the search operation, confirming the continuation of security forces in combing the area to track down the remaining defeated terrorist cells. The Joint Operations Command had announced on Thursday the targeting of a "dangerous"
terrorist element in an airstrike carried out by army aviation in Wadi Al-Shay within the Kirkuk operations sector, resulting in the complete destruction of the terrorist hideout and the elimination of the target.
