The Baghdad Police Command – Karkh side announced on Friday (May 8, 2026) that it had uncovered the circumstances of a runover incident that resulted in the death of an elderly woman, and arrested the fleeing suspect in record time.
The command stated in a statement that "due to the importance of the incident, a joint work team was formed from Al-Taji Police Station and Al-Taji Emergency Unit," through which police patrols were able to uncover the circumstances of the
runover of an elderly woman in the holy Kadhimiya area, after the suspect fled the scene leaving the victim on the median island, which led to her death from her injuries.
It explained that "upon receiving the information, patrols from Al-Taji and Al-Kadhimiya police stations, Al-Taji and Al-Kadhimiya emergency units, and criminal investigation patrols, supported by the security formations of Al-Taji city, initiated intensive field procedures including search, investigation, information gathering, and tracking the vehicle's route."
It noted that the security efforts "yielded, in record time, the identification and arrest of the suspect, as well as the seizure of the vehicle used in the incident."
The command affirmed that "professional security work and continuous follow-up have once again proven that no crime will remain unsolved, and that the hand of the law will reach anyone who attempts to escape justice."
