Arab League Issues Historic Decision Against Iran: Demands Compensation and Condemns Hormuz Closure

Arab foreign ministers adopted at the conclusion of their emergency meeting on Tuesday (April 21, 2026) a historic resolution holding Iran fully responsible for attacks targeting eight Arab states and demanding full compensation for damages. The resolution strongly condemned Iran's closure of the Strait of Hormuz and its threats to shut the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, considering this a flagrant violation of international law. Countries affected by Iranian attacks included Jordan, the UAE, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, and Iraq. Commenting on the resolution, Bahraini Foreign Minister Abdullatif Al Zayani affirmed that Tehran's actions disrupted global maritime navigation and threatened world food and energy security, calling on the international community to hold Iran accountable for the consequences of closing the Strait of Hormuz.
