The US State Department announced on Friday (May 15, 2026) a 45-day extension of the ceasefire agreement between Lebanon and Israel. It also scheduled a fourth round of negotiations and the launch of a joint security track between the two
sides. The State Department explained in a statement that the fourth round of negotiations will be held on June 2 and 3 to discuss de-escalation and stability issues. It was also decided to launch a joint security track at the
Israeli Ministry of Defense headquarters on May 29, with the participation of high-level military delegations to discuss field and security arrangements on the border. These developments follow a new round of talks in Washington on Thursday, and a major Israeli
escalation in Lebanon that claimed the lives of dozens. Washington continues its efforts to facilitate intensive talks to reach a "comprehensive peace and security agreement."
