Iraqi Government Issues New Directives Covering Energy, Environment, and Investment Sectors

Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi chaired the regular session of the Council of Ministers, issuing a series of strategic decisions. Directives emphasized the maintenance of electricity networks, combating pollution in the Tigris River, and removing water hyacinths. The Council also declared Thursday an official holiday for Ashura. In the energy sector, approval was granted to supply private generators with free diesel fuel for July and August to ensure 20 hours of daily electricity provision for citizens. Regarding public spending, a halt was ordered on contracts for uninitiated investment projects, offering companies options to delay work or mutually terminate contracts. On the regulatory front, the Federal Internal Audit Commission draft law was referred to Parliament, and the fifth amendment bill to the Civil Aviation Law was withdrawn.
