Interior Ministry Issues Statement on Kirkuk Tragedy


The Ministry of Interior issued a statement regarding the tragedy that struck Kirkuk Governorate, while stressing to all vehicle drivers the necessity of fully adhering to laws, instructions, and traffic rules.

The ministry stated in an official statement that "with deep sadness and sorrow, the Ministry of Interior received the news of the horrific traffic accident that occurred in Kirkuk Governorate," noting that "at exactly (19:00) on Sunday, a tragic traffic accident occurred in the (Darwaza) area on the road linking Kirkuk and Sulaymaniyah, following the collision of a large transport vehicle (a cement trailer) with (30) other vehicles, due to complete loss of control over the vehicle."

It added that "the accident resulted, unfortunately, in the death of (6) citizens and the injury of (22) others with varying degrees of wounds, in addition to significant material damage to the vehicles."

The ministry indicated that it "expresses its condolences, with hearts believing in God's decree and destiny, to the families of the deceased victims in this painful tragedy, asking Almighty God to shower them with His mercy and admit them to His spacious Paradise, and to grant the injured a speedy recovery."

It stressed, according to the statement, to "all vehicle drivers the necessity of fully adhering to laws, instructions, safe traffic rules, and safety conditions specified by the Traffic Directorate, and to stay away from any behavior that claims the lives of innocents and destroys property."

It affirmed that it "will not hesitate to take deterrent legal measures against any violator of traffic regulations, to preserve public peace and the lives of citizens."
