Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani has ended all opportunities for dialogue with armed factions following a drone attack on the National Intelligence Service headquarters in Baghdad on Saturday, which killed an officer and injured several others.
During his visit to the targeted site on Sunday, Al-Sudani described the perpetrators as a "cowardly group."
The Prime Minister ordered security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation to publicly expose the attackers and bring them to justice, emphasizing that the decision of war and peace rests exclusively with the state.
Al-Sudani also urged political forces to take a clear and explicit stance against the ongoing attacks targeting state institutions, diplomatic missions, and military bases in the country.
In the same context, a government source denied that any party was authorized to negotiate or hold dialogues with the armed factions regarding a truce.
Official sources had previously revealed to "Mada Al-Rafidain News" that discussions were underway to halt attacks on the US Embassy in exchange for conditions set by the factions. However, the recent attack on the intelligence headquarters has eliminated any possibility of continuing this dialogue.
On the political front, former Parliament Speaker Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani called for the formation of a 45-day emergency government, amid ongoing political disputes and the delayed election of a new president and prime minister.
