rafidainscope - The Babylon Antiquities and Heritage Inspectorate refuted on Thursday (September 10, 2026) circulated reports published by media outlets and social media pages about the discovery of bronze statues and skeletons in Al-Shomali district, confirming that legal measures will

be taken and those who misled public opinion will be prosecuted.

Babylon Antiquities Inspector Adel Kazim said in a clarification that reports of a citizen's claim about an archaeological site containing statues, jars, and yellow bitumen were inaccurate, noting that the claimants should have turned to the inspectorate to verify the allegations as it represents the official archaeological authority.

Kazim explained that the site in question is a flat piece of land indicated on the cadastral map, and what occurred was the appearance of part of a low wall during river dredging works, after which the Al-Shomali monitoring unit

immediately stopped the works, noting that the site crosses a dam built by the state about 15 years ago.

He added that the inspectorate formed technical joint committees with security agencies, conducted field inspections, and fully proved the inaccuracy of the claims about bronze statues or archaeological finds.

The antiquities inspector confirmed that the inspectorate's legal representative was directed to file an official legal complaint against everyone who published false information with no relation to reality and misled public opinion.
